Ylang Ylang for Love

Ylang ylang essential oil, like rose and jasmine oils, it a perfect sensual oil for Valentine's Day. It is one of the favorite oils added to perfume formulas and is in Chanel's No 5, Armani's Aqua De Gio and Dior's Poison.

The name ylang ylang means "flower of all flowers" and is native to South East Asia. Most of the oil today is produced in Madagascar, Reunion, the Comores and Philipines. The blooms are hand picked in the early morning when the essential oil is most concentrated and processed very soon after by steam distillation.

The oil has an intense floral fragrance with a spicy undertone. It should be used sparingly as it's intoxicating aroma can cause headaches and nausea if too much is used. Ylang ylang is an antidepressant, aphrodisiac, antiseptic and sedative. It is used to calm nerves, reduce inhibitions like teenage awkwardness and promoting togetherness by balancing male and female energies. It is also excellent for balancing oily skin and for hair growth.

For a romantic evening at home on Valentine's Day it can be used as a room spray or used in a burner. It is a natural fixative so the perfume will linger for hours. For a wonderful sensual massage, add ylang ylang with geranium or lavender to a base oil for woman, and add ylang ylang with frankincense or cedarwood to base oil for a man.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I purchased a wonderful blend a few weeks ago that has ylang ylang in it along with Orange...I just love the aroma...I'm not usually one who likes ylang ylang because it is too flowery for me, but in this blend it has just a sublte fragrance that makes it compelling.
